Mechanical Ventilation Design Summary
Along with an application for a permit to construct, you’ll be required to submit many supporting documents. One of these is the Mechanical Ventilation Design Summary, required in many municipalities across Ontario. This form provides a quick summary and calculation showing the required ventilation for a home, as well as how that ventilation capacity will be met and is required to be signed by a qualified designer with both an HRAI and BCIN number.
As a standard form, the Mechanical Ventilation Design Summary form can be used for the most common three options for ventilation ducting Simplified, meaning the HRV connects to the furnace ductwork to both remove stale air and supply fresh air. Extended Exhaust or Exhaust Ducted, which uses the furnace to supply fresh air, but draws stale air directly from the bathrooms and/or the kitchen and laundry room. The last option is Fully Ducted or Fully dedicated, which is the only option if you don’t have any other ductwork in your home. This configuration is installed similar to an exhaust ducted system, with the exception being that it supplies fresh air directly to the bedrooms and a living room as there is no other ductwork to take advantage of.
If you have more than 5 bedrooms in your home, you may require a Part 6 design, which requires additional forms. Contact Efficient Home today to find out how we can help you fill out your ventilation forms for building permit and construction process.
