Mechanical Design Report (MDR)
The Mechanical Design Report or MDR for short, is the City of Ottawa’s unique mechanical form, that they have required be submitted with your building permit application, since October 1st of 2020.
This form includes all the same features of the MVDS form, but also asks for the size of the heating and cooling equipment being installed, as well as that you’ve attached the heat loss/gain report and the air duct, radiant tubing or other heating equipment design.
The form also lists the efficiency of other equipment, such as the water heater, not typically included in the HVAC design process, or for information about the proposed build, such as if cooling will be supplied by and AC or air source heat pump, but in common with the MVDS form, it must be completed and signed by a designer with both an HRAI designer number and a qualified BCIN qualified designer.
